Rock with Laughter Line up Hot List “did you know”
Posted on July 23, 2010, by admin, under Rock with Laughter, rock with laughter show.
Here’s a fun packed blog full of some things you may not know about this years Rock with Laughter line-up, but lets start by wishing Dave Hill from Slade a speedy recovery after being taken ill on tour last week. Dave is now taking it easy and we’re looking forward to seeing him in full Slade mode for Rock with Laughter in December.
So – Did You Know? -
Led Zeppelin legend Robert Plant was once considered as the front man for Slade. Noddy had been working as part of the road crew for Plants band The N’ Betweeners in 1968 but Slade’s tour manager said “no, Nod can do the Job”, and the rest is history. As somebody who has more than a passing interest in Slade having seen them probably 50 times in their early days and followed them from club to club, through their skin-head era and beyond, I wonder would Planty really have “Got down and got with it” as well as Noddy did?
Our Rock with Laughter host Lenny Henry’s earliest television appearances were on New Faces, a talent show on television in the mid 70s, he repeatedly won the show. Lenny’s Frank Spencer impression was said to be better than Frank himself. Mickey Most ( the Simon Cowell of the 70′s ) and Tony Hatch were the judges and said they voted on potential, and boy did they get that one right. Now a normal year for Lenny is an Australian tour, the lead in Othello and helping to raise almost £6o million for Comic Relief. How excited we are to have Lenny as our host.
Adrian Edmundson started his comedy career with partner Rick Mayall when he joined “20th Century Coyote“. Mayall would tell the jokes and Edmondson’s speciality would be dismantling the clubs piano in the background. Together they went on to create “the Comic Strip”, “The Young Ones” and of course “Bottom”. Edmundson recently formed his band The Bad Shepherds to bring together his two favourite types of music, Punk and Folk. The Bad Shepherds were recently nominated ‘BEST LIVE ACT’ BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2010.
Whatever your taste in entertainment, we all love a good laugh but when the music is great as well then that makes for a perfect combination.
