Rock with Laughter meets the XFactor
Posted on October 11, 2010, by patricia, under Rock with Laughter, rock with laughter show.
As series 7 of the XFactor arrives on a screen near you, we can take a nostalgic look back at past Rock with Laughter shows that have featured XFactor contestants.
Yes the XFactor is back this year with Simon Cowell, bless him, along with Louis Walsh, Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue. Gathering together once again a host of expectant singers all chasing the dream. Well why not, now in series 7, the XFactor has produced many stars and a fair share of the talent has appeared here at Rock with Laughter.
Way back in 2006 we had Ray Quinn strutting his stuff on the Rock with laughter Stage. Ray, runner up in the Xfactor series 2, wooed our lady members of the audience with his crooning and swing-style of singing and just last year went on to win Dancing on Ice 2009 after receiving a perfect score of 60/60.
Rock with Laughter 2007 saw Niki Evans taking to the stage, after an invite from Jasper Carrott, our host at the time. Niki, a local girl from Tamworth in Staffordshire, started her career at the age of 16 when she was signed to Libido Records, an off shoot of Pete Waterman’s PWL Label.
Niki went right through to the XFactor semi finals and Sharon Osborne said she was “in a class of her own”. Niki is back on tour in 2010 and this Christmas is in pantomime as The Fairy Godmother in Cinderella at The Wolverhampton Grand Theatre.
So will there be an XFactor finalist in this years Rock with Laughter? Who knows?
The best way to find out would be to book your tickets now.

Why not go for the amazingly diverse this Christmas
Posted on October 4, 2010, by patricia, under rock with laughter show.
Thinking of Christmas and where to go for some great fun and laughter? The line up for this year’s Rock With Laughter at the LG Arena is so amazingly diverse and unusual you are sure to have a great time.
Here’s four of the great headliners.
The lovely Adrian Edmondson will be performing with his band. In April 2010, Edmondson confirmed to the Daily Express that he’d quit comedy, stating that his interest in it has declined for many years, and wanted to focus more on his band, claiming it is ‘more fun than doing comedy but, thankfully, in an August edition of Radio 4′s Chain Reaction he clarified to Lee Mack that, he hadn’t really quit but was focusing more on music and farming.
Then there’s Rolf Harris, this, well loved character will be doing some of his great old hits. 2010 is set to be a massive year for Rolf Harris. Believe it or not, his 80th birthday was in March, and this has been celebrated with the launch of a major new art tour in London and around the country. He is also going to publish a beautiful art book dedicated to Rolf’s life and work, and a superb collection of artwork which will be released over the year.
Do you like Ed Byrne. He’s on the show too! Do you remember him at the start of his career in father Ted? He’s come a long way since then and is now one of the funnyest men on stage, he has actually been in The Graham Norton show three times.
You can’t miss Alan Carr. Did you know that, according to legend, on September 21st, 4 years ago, he and Lionel Blair helped save a man who was about to fall from a pier in Blackpool. The man was holding on by his fingertips, but they managed to pull him to safety.
Make a date to get our version of diversity. Rock with Laughter is at the LG Arena, 10th & 11th, December. Book your tickets online now

Rolf Harris singing Two Little Boys at WOMAD 2010
Posted on September 27, 2010, by patricia, under Christmas 2010, laughter, Rock with Laughter, rock with laughter show.
According to the BBC News magazine website:
Rolf Harris has re-recorded his 1969 number one Two Little Boys with a Welsh male voice choir to mark the 90th anniversary of the end of World War I. But the song has roots stretching back to Nelson’s death.
Rock legend has it that John Lennon sent Rolf Harris a telegram to congratulate him on getting an anti-Vietnam song to the top of the Christmas hit parade.
But in 1969, as in its forthcoming remake, the song seems to be set in the cavalries of World War I. So which war is it that Jack and Joe, the song’s protagonists, are fighting in?
The song is a charmingly simple two-act story. In act one, the two little boys play war games on wooden horses – Jack’s horse breaks, but Joe “rescues” his friend, saying “there’s room on my horse for two”.
Then, act two, after “long years had passed” and “war came so fast”, the pair are in an actual war. Joe lies injured on the battlefield, but this time it is Jack who rescues him for real, trembling and explaining: “I think it’s that I remember / When we were two little boys.”
But Harris’s initial response to hearing the song back in the 1960s was far from positive. “I thought it was really namby-pamby and awful,” he said.
In the liner notes to The Definitive Rolf Harris, the singer recalls Australian folkie Ted Egan singing it to him, keeping rhythm by bashing his table.
“I was sitting there feeling uncomfortable and wondering what I was going to say to him about the song when he had finished, because he was such a nice bloke and it was such an awful song.
“Suddenly he was singing the line, ‘Did you think I would leave you dying?’ and all the hairs stood up on the back of my neck and arms.”
Harris then performed the song on his British TV variety show and recorded it as a single – “we had one spare track after take three, so we asked the trumpeter to re-record his bit and it gave the song a ghostly feel.”

Lenny Henry and Jasper Carrott chat about Rock with Laughter at Elton Hall.

The summer of 2008 saw Rock with Laughter going “on the road” for a series of summer shows taking in venues at stateley homes from Leeds down to Suffolk.
Headed by Lenny Henry and an appearence from Jasper Carrott, the shows featured top artists such as Jo Brand, Elkie Brooks, Phill Jupitas with the original Blockheads, the Manfreds and what better way to end an open air show than a rousing chorus of “la,la, la, la, la, la, Hey Jude” from the Bootleg beatles.

Remembering the good old days!
Posted on June 16, 2010, by patricia, under rock with laughter show.
It’s amazing to think that Rock with Laughter has become an eagerly anticipated annual event. Last year’s show took place on 18th and 19th December (yes, only two nights) and opened with the fantastic Elton John tribute show Rocket Man.
Rocket Man also played for the ‘backstage’ VIP post-show party, with the tremendous Subterraneans and Heart fm’s Dave Clarke hosting the whole thing, providing the disco that kept the fun going until 2am.
The 2009 line up featured the fabulous Sugababes – the new format with Heidi Range, Amelle Berrabah and Jade Ewen – Alan Carr (who was even better live on stage than he is on his television shows) Lee Mack and Dara O’Briain (who knew that he was so tall?) and Shappi Khorsandi, who is one of those performers that we don’t know until she walks out on stage and we all say ‘oh, it’s her, I like her’! It wouldn’t be a party without some Abba music and Björn Again gave us all a get-up-on-your-feet blast – and we did get up on our feet.
It was a difficult decision – to buy tickets for the Friday and see the beautiful Alesha Dixon, or buy tickets for the Saturday and see the frankly delicious Peter Andre – was I the only one to buy tickets for both nights? I don’t think so!
The Blockheads played the very best of their music, fronted by Phill Jupitus and Britain’s Got Talent finalist Aidan Davis stunned the audience with his amazing dance routines – I wonder how many of the other performers secretly tried to copy him?
Lee Mack was giving it a spirited effort during the grand finale when all the performers came on stage to sing White Christmas – aaah!
Oh, of course, Lenny Henry, he was magnificent as the Master of Ceremonies and had everyone in stitches throughout the evening. Can’t wait for this year’s shows – not sure if I can afford tickets for three nights, though!

Laugh and The World Laughs With You!
Posted on June 8, 2010, by patricia, under laughter, rock with laughter show.
You know when you are having one of those days when nothing seems to go right. You’ve had a couple of phone calls about overdue bills, you burnt the lunch and to top it all, the kids are playing you up.
If you’re not careful, your kids will sense your mood and will end up in a mood themselves so how do you pull yourself out of it?
This happens to me a lot lately as I’ve just started a new business and am still not one hundred percent sure I have done the right thing!
You see, a lot of situations can’t be helped, they are out of our control and this is something we are not comfortable with.
But you can control your mood because you can control the funny side of life – in other words, the laughter.
I’m learning that when I choose to use laughter instead of anger, I actually feel happier, healthier even thinner,(I’m always on a diet).
I’ll tell you now, I’m not an expert at this laughter therapy, but I’m working on it.
They say that when you have a good laugh you release endorphins that make you feel elated, which, in turn, makes you feel less tense.
I know that I am definitely more lovable to my family after I’ve had a good laugh. I also think I’m providing a good example to them, laugh and the World laughs with you as they say.
